The Ministry of Planning to Conduct 2022 Economic Census in March

PHNOM PENH: The 2022 economic census will be conducted from 1 to 31 March 2022 nationwide, using a total of 5,000 interview officials to calculate and evaluate economic growth by sector in each provincial capital.

The 2022 Census must have accurate, reliable, and timely data to meet the demand for data based on the economic context in the capitals, provinces, regions and the world, which has progressed with the fourth generation of the Industrial Revolution. Which will bring modern technology for the development of the digital economy in line with the Rectangular Strategy Phase 4 of the Royal Government of Cambodia.

Senior Minister of Planning Chhay Thorn has said that the census data is important to meet the need to use the data as an important input in policy formulation, economic development, environment, society, culture and provide indicators for the goals of the Sustainable Development Goals 2016-2030.

He has also said that this is the second economic census after the first in 2011 called "Enterprise Census in the Kingdom of Cambodia 2011" and "survey between enterprises in the Kingdom of Cambodia 2014."

Chhay Thorn has also mentioned that the preliminary results of the census of economic units in the 25 provincial capitals, there will be a total of 743,532 economic units in 2021 nationwide.

The number of economic entities increased by about 47 percent compared to 2011 of the 2011 enterprise census and increased by about 45 percentcompared to 2014 between the 2014 enterprise census survey data. The preliminary results show the change in population structure and administrative geography at the local level, villages, communes, district in the provincial capitals, with a total population of nearly 16 million and there will be a total of 3.6 million households in 2019.

The Royal Government of Cambodia delegation in charge of the Director General of the National Institute of Statistics, Ministry of Planning, Ms. Hang Lina has stated that the census staff will visit the base of factories, enterprises, companies, pagodas and businesses of all sizes to a specific location to inquire about business-related information, the results will be officially announced in 2023.

She has suggested that economic entities operating in specific locations be prepared to participate in the campaign to provide information to census officials.

The economic census is being conducted every 10 years based on the Law on Statistics, Article 678 and Sub-Decree No. 151 dated 2 October 2019 on the date of preparation and The conduct of the economic census in the Kingdom of Cambodia in 2022.
